The Article
If fragrance is the dance of the flower, and sweetness, the dance of sugar, it is safe to say that the Universe finds its origin and end in Dance. Then, you and I are mere dancers in this Enormous Sphere. Every swing of the hand, sway of the hip, tap of the feet and twitch of the eye lid: is Natya. Typical of the knower and knowledge, the percipient and what is perceived, dance shares an intimate bonding with the soul of every being. Among the various codified, defined mediums of Natya, there is Bharathanatyam, an ancient dance form that has been passed on to us over several generations. It has seen the courts of Kings, it has paid visits to temples, it has seen proscenium stages, it has been invited into our modern auditoriums, malls, buses etc., and it is being a silent witness to vivacious ventures on social media, where ‘likes’ and ‘subscribers’ seem to be more attractive than the content itself. In the current scenario, there is an increased tendency among many, to attach a great deal of importance to the aspect of popularity on social media and strive to become “famous” dancers. There is nothing wrong with wanting to be famous, but, more than wanting to be “famous” dancers, it would be more meaningful to be sincere, honest dancers to whom fame might knock their doors someday. [/vc_column_text][/vc_column][vc_column][vc_column_text]Contentment through the Art
To be a student of the art itself is a blessing and it’s up to the student to stay true to the art and develop a sense of answerability towards it. Art is subjective and so is “success” in the arts. In my measuring scale, a successful artiste is one who feels contentment through the art – not through the fame, money or recognition that the art provides him/her, but just through the practice of the art. If your art can bring you smiles as well as tears, if your art can show you colors as well as paleness, if your art can make you excited as well as keep you calm, you are a successful student of the art.
If you hold on to your art with utmost honesty, love and hard work, come what may, you are a successful artiste, and that we should all strive for![/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row enable_arrows_animation=”no”][vc_column]
