TEJAS RANE Q&A
[/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]How is performing arts photography different from other types of photography?
In performing arts, you have to understand what the artiste is portraying and the same has to be captured with all the essence of this portrayal intact. For example, if an artiste in enacting Lord Krishna on stage, the photograph should talk to you as if Lord Krishna is talking to you. The essence of Lord Krishna should come out in the photograph. So the photographer has to be very quick sometimes, or should be very patient sometimes.
An artiste puts her heart and soul into her performance. Only a photographer who thoroughly understands and appreciates this, will have the inclination to also put his / her heart and soul into capturing those special moments on stage in the most special way.
What are your simple tips for aspiring artistes before a photo shoot?
Well, don’t at all think about photography or you are being photographed. Just immerse yourself in what your forte is, that is a performing arts. Just be calm and be yourself. This brings out the best in you. With this, the end result will make you as well as the photographer happy.
How do you prepare yourself before a photo session and for photography for a performance event on stage?
I make it a point to attend rehearsal sessions, if possible. I try to have a casual chat with the artiste to know more about the ensuing performance. This gives a better chance to mentally work out on how best I can capture the most appropriate aspects of the performance. [/vc_column_text][/vc_column][vc_column width=”1/2″][vc_column_text]How is the photography of a dancer, a singer and a musician – different from each other?
A photographer has to be in absolute sync with the performance. Only this gives you the correct moment to be captured, irrespective of whether the artiste is dancing, singing or playing an instrument. The captured moment should portray the artiste’s integral emotions while performing.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][vc_column][vc_empty_space][vc_column_text]How did you enter the field of arts photography?
My sister is a Bharatanatyam dancer and my father is a photographer. I am also a Tabla player and have been performing on stage. This has given me an opportunity, or rather an inspiration, to become an arts photographer. I have been capturing dance performances, events and weddings through my lens – trying my best to freeze the right emotions for posterity.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row enable_arrows_animation=”no”][vc_column]
