Arts provide excellent career options; also aid those aspiring for ventures of all types
– An incisive essay by ANANYA GAUR

This piece, by highlighting the personal experience of the author, goads the youth to unearth the passion within, and unleash the mind’s creativity. Doing this might also help them perform better at academics and other fields.
Ananya Gaur, the author, is a 17-year-old hobbyist from Sri Ganganagar in Rajasthan, a state in northern India. She is a passionate writer, dancer and painter. Her propensity for art compels her to explore her horizons and juggle with different interests. She has her own Blog Site where she expresses her views about different topics and a YouTube Channel where she posts her dance videos. She tries to create meaningful work and wishes to make an impact with it.

Like all my fellow mates of this system (who set their hearts on getting into IITs, AIIMS, Indian Administrative Services, etc.) even I have a dream – a dream of becoming an independent individual and living my life to the fullest. To accomplish this dream, apart from academics, I am also backed by my passions. Scuttling in the fatiguing but indispensable rat race of life, even an hour of dancing, painting, or writing, provides me with the equanimity needed to slacken the stress.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row enable_arrows_animation=”no” css=”.vc_custom_1474291084926{padding-bottom: 20px !important;}”][vc_column][vc_column_text]While undertaking these activities, I feel a liberating force that drives away all frets. Apart from alleviating the pressure, these activities also give me life lessons. After dancing, the sweat drops – which for me, are no less than adorning than pearls – teach me about the significance of diligence; the paint stains on my clothes remind of all the imprecise strokes I struggled with, inspiring me to combat my failures; and finally, the crumbled paper balls of the innumerable drafts I discard – before coming up with my final piece of writing – encourage me to work persistently with a never giving up attitude.
Arts can Provide Hours of Pure Ecstasy
Therefore, apart from being excellent career options, performing and visual arts aid the lives of people aspiring for, or undertaking, all types of ventures. They act as stress busters and sometimes teach what even the most celebrated philosophers couldn’t. They help break the monotony of life by providing some hours of pure ecstasy. Unknowingly, they might also help perform better at academics and other fields by unleashing the mind’s creativity. I feel that everybody has a passion, but most of India’s youth is over occupied by academics and is oblivious to their own talents. The need of the hour is to unearth the passion within. This would ensure a pleasant life and deviate ourselves from the usual materialistic goals. In my opinion, the present situation is the best time to do the same.
The Covid-19 era, apart from the annihilation, has also brought some constructive changes: it has compelled us to spend time with ourselves, ponder about what really matters to us, and question who we truly are. After hearing about the death of millions, I discerned that even a microscopic entity could take away an individual’s most prized possession. I realized how precious my life was; and, decided that I would not just work to fulfill my future endeavors but also live in the present.
Inspired to take out even more time to follow my passion, I thought of showcasing my passions: I created my own YouTube channel and blog during the lockdown. It gave me immense joy and motivation when I realized that people appreciated my talent and understood art. Trust me, it wasn’t rocket science to create these channels, but the sense of accomplishment was no less than that of walking on the moon.
It’s the Right Time to Pick up a Hobby, Showcase It
Like me, all students have more free time: classes are online, no time is wasted in transportation, and going out often is prohibited. Thus, there could be no better time than this to pick up a hobby. You can write a book, learn to play an instrument or a dance form, write blogs, start You Tubing, and the list goes on. There is no end to the different genres of arts available; you just need to opt for the one meant for you. There are numerous free websites that create free blog pages or charge a nominal fee, and millions of online videos are available to teach you the art of your interest. There are infinite ways to hone our skills and ignite our passions.
Finally, I feel that the dancer, painter, and writer in me are inextricable parts of my personality. I can’t imagine my life without them. I think that performing and visual arts are life-long companions; jobs and professions may change, but these will always be there to underpin me and provide meaning to my life.

Girl you are so talented and gorgeous! Literally inspiring me to dance again. I especially loved the choreography and overall fashion/environment aesthetic in the “Piya Tose Naina Lage Re” video.
Good luck in your dance and YouTube endeavors, and keep it up, because you’re going places!
