COVID-19 CARE MESSAGE THROUGH DANCE – by Kalpita Rane Sawant
[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][vc_column width=”1/2″][vc_column_text]We are in a crisis situation because of COVID-19. Most of us are at home, hoping and praying for the situation to improve. I appeal to each reader to seriously follow (and share) the advisories issued only by competent authorities, namely government departments, the World Health Organization (WHO), and reputed medical care organizations. In short, don’t panic, stay home, be calm, maintain personal hygiene and social distancing, and be healthy!
Being confined to home, and having very little to do also gives everyone in the creative arts field, a very rare opportunity to spend some quality time with oneself. An opportunity we always crave during our hectic daily schedules, but never get.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row enable_arrows_animation=”no” css=”.vc_custom_1474291084926{padding-bottom: 20px !important;}”][vc_column][vc_column_text]Irrespective if you are a dancer or a singer, the current shut-down gives us the much coveted time to peep deep within ourselves and get a better insight into our creative self. Also, to reduce our daily routine stress by being one with the art form we love.
Many of the aspiring, young dancers are either studying or have a busy schedule working at their offices. They don’t get enough time for their passion in life, that is dance. Even if they do manage to get time for this during their busy routine, that time is too limited for them to experiment with their art. But being at home and having ample time at one’s disposal, give us enough time to indulge ourselves in some hard core practice sessions to improve dance skills and finesse; and also, to experiment.
As my performing arts institute, Kalpangan Sanskrutik Kendra, is currently closed due to the present situation, I have made a schedule for myself, apportioning time for the family and for arts – so that both don’t trespass each other. I have also asked my students to do the same.
Apart from that, I would like to share my standard advice to all upcoming dancers. You should consistently experiment with your dance, but before such experimentations, just make sure your basics are right. If you have an acceptable mastery over your basics, you can do exceptionally well in your experiments – whether it is in contemporary or any other dance form.
Enjoy your dance and be healthy!
